An Auckland goldsmith flies out to LA on Saturday to show off a million dollars worth of his designs to Hollywood stylists, media and celebrities.
Ken Robinson has been invited to a pre-Oscar event to showcase his original jewellery, and says there is a lot of money to be made if he can convince stylists and celebrities to wear his creations.
Mr Robinson says he’s received positive feedback so far about his jewellery. “We're showing pieces we've been told in the LA market are fresh and have a good likelihood of being picked up,” he says.
“So we're just going to give it our best shot basically.” He says he has been keeping a close eye on what celebrities have been wearing to recent awards to feel out the competition and current trends. “Fashion is going to dictate what pieces if any do get worn. But we have tailored a few pieces having kept an eye on the Globes and the Grammys. There could be a late New Zealand entry in the Oscars this year.
